Scorer controversies rock Nomads’, Mafco match

An impressive performance by Mafco on Sunday earned them a 3-2 win over Mighty Be Forward Wanderers at Kamuzu Stadium on Sunday-in a match there were debates over who some of the goal scorers were.

The visitors netted their first through Stain Malata just after four minutes. He had driven in a thunderbolt shot from 26 yards to beat Bester Phiri in goals for the Nomads.

The Nomads second equalizer through Boston Kabango was also a clear goal he got the credit on.  His well taken shot brought the Nomads back in the game before they lost it late through yet another controversial goal.

But the rest of the goals left people arguing on who scorers were.

Nomads and Mafco involved in a scuffle after a series of a physical play.

The equalizer through Jaffalie Chande looked as if it was an own goal.

It by far looked that Chande only had a slight contact with the ball and it was seen coming off two Mafco defenders who were in disarray  to  clear the ball which had come from a Mike Kaziputa corner kick on the right flank of the pitch.

Chande was seen to be the scorer as he led the celebration but photojournalists who were just a stone throw away from the goal maintained that it was an own goal and that Chande has just a slight impact before the ball hit two defenders for the Nomads to pull level before recess. The match commissioners had to consult before they said the goal was given to Chande.

Mafco’s second was given to Zikholi Ngulube. He had taken a free kick just metres away from the Nomads goal after Stanley Sanudi fouled Richard Mbulu. While it was seen as if Ngulube’s ball did not meet anyone into the net, images that photojournalists indicate that the ball was headed in by Nomads defender Foster Namwera-an own goal, but all credit went to Ngulube.

As if this was not enough the visitor had their other controversial winner as the soldiers were again awarded a free kick outside the Nomads box and Ngulube’s well driven in free kick beat Phiri in goals for Mafco to win it.

While other pundits say Ngulube’s free kick was not headed by Mbulu, others claim that Mbulu to had had a touch on it-and left Phiri seeing the ball in an empty net.

But Mbulu had led the celebrations and the hero tag he might have controversially earned made headlines. He killed it all.

The match commissioners however said the following were the goal scorers.

Mafco scorers– Stain Malata, Zikholi Ngulube and Richard Mbulu

Nomads scorers– Jaffalie Chande and Boston Kabango.

This comes as calls are being made by pundits for the need for televising matches in the top tier league.

Last year there was a controversial war on who would be the top goal scorer as what others said was not a Chiukepo Msowoya goal in their match against Civo saw him catch up with Innocent Bokosi on 14 goals at the end of the season.
