The Malawi Competition and Fair Trading Commission (CFTC) has expressed happiness over the adoption of reforms in the competition and consumer protection regime in the country.
In a press statement signed by CTFC Executive Director, Charlotte-Wezi Malonda, the commission also commends the Public Service Reforms team which is headed by the country;s Vice President, Saulos Chilima, for providing valuable guidance and advice in the reforms process.
CFTC says that the reforms are key to creating a competitive and fair market environment for the benefit of both the consumers and business community.
Some of the adopted reforms are plans to construct an office complex which will reduce administrative expenses and also diversify CFTC’s revenue base, aligning sectoral laws to the Competition and Fair Trading Act, amending the Act in order to eliminate existing gaps and provide on-spot fines for some violations of consumer protection laws, among other reforms.
The Public Service Reforms initiative was put in place by the state President Peter Mutharika with an aim of depoliticizing the public service in the country.
