Fire this morning damaged Minister of Information and Communications Technology Henry Mussa’s house at Area 10 in Lilongwe, destroying the minister’s new Toyota Prado VX worth millions of Kwacha.
The cause of the blaze is yet to be established but it is believed that the fire started from the garage.
Mussa said Lilongwe City Council Fire Brigade arrived at the house on time but the fire engine failed to work.
The fire spread to the main house but was eventually put out with the help of neighbours. The neighbours also managed to move out of the house some valuable property and no person got injured due to the fire incident.
Mussa’s official vehicle , the Toyota Prado which was in the garage, was however not saved.
“Actually this was a new Toyota Prado VX delivered to me on Monday from Toyota Malawi. In the same garage I have lost 55 bags of cement, spare parts for my cars and other valuables. It is quite a loss I should say. But I must thank the people who helped to put out the fire after the [Lilongwe] City Council Fire Brigade disappointed,” he said.
