Peter Mutharika, Jane Ansah’s ‘kiss’ resurfaces

A photo that has been said to be of President Peter Mutharika and Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Chairperson having a kiss has re-surfaced.

The photo, with a nyasatimes tag, has been shared on social media by several individuals questioning the independence of MEC in the 2019 tripartite elections.

Malawi24 could, however, not independently verify the kissing individuals as the photo is blurred and not vivid on its details. This publication could also not ascertain the photo’s authenticity on whether it is real or a doctored-image.

People have been demanding for Jane Ansah’s head after it emerged that a voter registration set was found in the neighbouring Mozambique.

MEC says the kit went missing when it was being transferred from Lilongwe to Mwanza.

The issue has raised fears among Malawians on whether the electoral body is capable of holding free and fair elections in 2019.

Vice President Saulos Chilima who is also candidate of United Transformation Movement (UTM) has claimed on several occasions that government has bought a machine intended to rig the elections for the ruling Democratic Progressive Party.

MEC and Government have separately rubbished Chilima’s allegations as baseless.
