Malawi national team and former Be Forward Wanderers midfielder Gerald Phiri Jnr has joined South African Premiership side Platinum Stars until the end of the season.

The 23 year-old was training with Platinum Stars after he was released by Bidvest Wits at the end of last season.

Platinum Stars general manager Senzo Mazingisa has confirmed that Phiri has now joined them until the end of the 2016/17 Absa Premiership season.

“We have signed Phiri from Bidvest Wits until the end of this season,” Mazingisa was quoted by one of South African media. He added that they are currently working on the papers of Phiri so that he should feature for his new team against former club Bidvest Wits at the Royal Bafokeng stadium on Saturday. “We are currently busy with his papers so that we register him very soon,” he said.

The Flames international joined Bidvest from Zimbabwean elite league side Caps United. But he failed to impress his coaches at the South African club and last season they sent him to Township Rollers on loan.

Following the loan spell, Wits released Phiri at the end of the 2015/2016 season.

    1. positive when is necessary not where is doesn’t give any sense. you don’t have to mess with any chance if given, you have to grab it with both hands. those two should learn from Ng’ambi,Mhango, Nyondo and Mzava. kunali ana Mponda,Grant Lungu, wadabwa,Chiukepo and Joseph kamwendo ayise onseo anapala kuno kamba konyetchera, kumgwetsa khope Pansi, you have to compete to be among victors.

  2. Jerald and Ngalande are too lazy and weak that why they struggle in south Africa. they don’t have stamina and they don’t work hard if given the chance.

    1. # Tonny Green I’m just saying what I’ ve seen from these fellow Malawians. you have to compete to be in the team. football is body contact sports. whom am I to pull them on floor?

    2. I do agree with Hanock coz I’ve been watching them all here in RSA but the truth is jnr phiri and ngalande they don’t put more effort when hv given a chance. So let’s encourage them to work extra hard so that he must continue playing in platinum stars coz its a big club lndeed.

    3. Guys maybe you mislead my comment, I have no doubt these two players are very good but I have just high lights the reason why these two players struggling. for example Gerald is 22yrs old he has signed a contract of one year (season ) which means the coach is not interested enough he has to work hard to be there next season . Ngalande is almost four seasons still searching for a club. these players has talent and skills but they should pull up their socks. I follow each and every Malawian soccer players with keen interest I’m not here to fail them
