Malawi national team and former Be Forward Wanderers midfielder Gerald Phiri Jnr has joined South African Premiership side Platinum Stars until the end of the season.

The 23 year-old was training with Platinum Stars after he was released by Bidvest Wits at the end of last season.

Platinum Stars general manager Senzo Mazingisa has confirmed that Phiri has now joined them until the end of the 2016/17 Absa Premiership season.

“We have signed Phiri from Bidvest Wits until the end of this season,” Mazingisa was quoted by one of South African media. He added that they are currently working on the papers of Phiri so that he should feature for his new team against former club Bidvest Wits at the Royal Bafokeng stadium on Saturday. “We are currently busy with his papers so that we register him very soon,” he said.

The Flames international joined Bidvest from Zimbabwean elite league side Caps United. But he failed to impress his coaches at the South African club and last season they sent him to Township Rollers on loan.

Following the loan spell, Wits released Phiri at the end of the 2015/2016 season.
