A minibus has hit to death a first year Mzuzu University student in an accident that has occurred this morning at Mzuni along the Mzuzu-Karonga road.
The student has been identified as Semu Banda who was studying Bachelor of Science Education.
According to Public Relations Officer for Mzuzu Police Martin Bwanali, the minibus registration number MZ 1410 Toyota Hiace driven by Mussa Gama, 28, was coming from Ekwendeni heading to Mzuzu city.
Upon reaching the university it hit the student who was on a Kamongo bicycle and was about to enter the university campus through the main gate .
Banda was rushed to Mzuzu Central Hospital where he died upon arrival.
Meanwhile, the minibus has been set on fire by angry Mzuni students while the driver is being kept at Police as investigations continue.
He comes from Chimala village in the area of Traditional Authority Nyambi in Machinga.
According to the college, the Banda’s body will be taken to Balaka for burial.
