It might pass for bizarre and odd but it has just happened. A man in Ntchisi district will be rotting in jail for the next five years for failing to tame his tongue.
The Ntchisi first grade magistrate court has sentenced a 27-year-old man to 5 years with hard labour for using insulting language.
The court heard that the convict Pililani Banda on 2 August this year at Elisa village used insulting words in a manner that aimed at provoking his mother to break peace. He also committed an offence against his mother by mentioning private parts.
The convict pleaded guilty to the charge of using insulting language.
The court also heard that on August 2 the convict threatened to beat his mother and injure her private parts.
In his ruling First grade magistrate Yohane Nkhata said the two offences are serious in nature hence the offender deserved a stiff punishment to deter would be offenders.
Banda hails from Elisha village in the Area of Traditional Authority Malenga in Ntchisi district.
In a related development, the same court has sentenced Mdakwana Folomani to 18 months imprisonment with hard labour for an offence of assaulting another person.
The court heard that the convict on August 12 at Chitedze village in Ntchisi district unlawfully assaulted Alice Chiwengo and injured her.
