Malawian man gets 13 years for rape

The Midima court has convicted and sentenced a 28 year-old man to 13 years in prison with hard labour for raping a six year-old girl.

The convict sent the girl to buy Kamba at a shop and when she returned, he lured the child into his house where he raped her.

Later, the mother of the girl noticed that her daughter was having difficulties to walk and upon questioning her daughter, the young girl revealed the story.

CourtIn court, the convict pleaded guilty to the charge of defilement which is contrary to section 138(1) of the penal code.

Presiding senior resident magistrate Mangawa Makhalira then sentenced the convict to 13 years imprisonment with hard labour.

Malikebu hails from Njereza village T/A Kasisi in Chikhwawa district.

Police have since advised parents to monitor their children’s movements and the behaviour of their neighbours to avoid such incidences.
