A group of Malawians who were stuck in Benoni in South Africa for almost a month and five days after the bus they were travelling in broke down several times in Johannesburg has now arrived in the country.

The thirty eight citizens who were dumped by a South African bus after the bus had broken down for five times while on the way back to Malawi said “their arrival gives a testimony” that they were favoured by God.

BeitbridgeAccording to information sourced by this publication, the group paid R52 000 and paid an extra R30 000  to the owner of the bus to take them back to Malawi.

After the bus was seen not capable to take the group back home, the owner was reported to be on the run and forced pay back the travellers.

Reacting to their situation, Intercape Bus Company offered the group a bus that helped them return to Malawi.

Speaking on their arrival in Lilongwe on Sunday, Intercape bus general manager Anthony Shogue said the company stepped in due to the unfriendly environment the group had in South Africa.

“They were not taking bath, there was no one to give them food and we felt that they shouldn’t living like that, we have given them free tickets, food and we will proceed to Mzimba to drop them,” said Shogue.

While in Benoni, one of the passengers gave birth to twins and she is to travel back to Malawi by an aeroplane.
