Old man rapes 6 year-old

…as Liwonde man gets jailed for raping stepdaughter

Police in Nkhatabay district are keeping in custody a 53 year-old man for raping a six year-old girl at Kawaladzi Estate in the district.

Nkhatabay police spokesperson lgnatius Esau has identified the paedophile as Stonard Mtengo.

Esau said the victim’s parents went to a funeral and left her playing with friends. The rapist took advantage of the couple’s absence and invited the young girl into his kitchen where he raped her.

“When the parents returned the girl reported what had happened and that’s when they alerted police at Mzenga who later referred them to Kawalazi Health Centre,” she said

At the health centre the parents were told to take the child to the district hospital where a medical examination confirmed that she had been raped

The suspect is currently in police custody as he awaits to appear in court to answer a charge of defilement which is contrary to section 138 of the Penal Code.

Meanwhile the police have attributed the increase of rape cases to ignorance of the law and long absence of men from their homes, especially those in the fishing communities and estate areas.

Mtengo hails from Chiwalamtendo village in the area of Traditional Authority (T/A) Mtwalo in Mzimba district.

Ina related incident, the Liwonde first grade magistrate court on Thursday sentenced a 28 year-old man to 14 years in jail for raping his stepdaughter.

Police prosecutor Richard Kandeya told the court that on May 6 the rapist, Ojesi Nankhonde, took the 10 year-old girl to a bush after claiming that the child was suffering from a toothache and he wanted to get herbs for her.

However, while in the bush the monster raped the girl.

When the two got home, the victim narrated everything to her mother who later reported the matter to police.

Police arrested Nankhonde and charged him with defilement which is contrary to section 138 of the Penal Code.

The girl was sent to Chikweo health centre for medical examination and findings indicated that she had been raped.

When passing judgement First grade magistrate Esher Phiri said that she is there to protect rights of children more especialy girls. She then sentenced the wicked father to 14 years in prison with hard labour.

The rapist hails from Lopwa village, Traditional Authority Chikweo in the district of Machinga.
