A 54 year-old officer from the forestry department has been beaten to death by an angry charcoal burner in the commercial city of Blantyre, police say.
The deceased, Foster Sankhulani, was severely beaten in line of duty as he was trying to confiscate bags of charcoal from the charcoal burner.
“The officer was conducting patrols together with his friend along Lungu Masamba road where they met this angry charcoal burner who had bags of charcoal on his bicycle and when the officers tried to work as per their work the man jumped on one officer and started beating him,” Chileka police spokesperson Grace Mwale told Malawi24.
The officer was later taken to Mlambe hospital where he was referred to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH) for further medical treatment but his condition was getting worse and he died a few hours later.
According to Mwale, investigations have been launched to arrest the charcoal burner whose details are yet to be known.
The deceased hailed from Mulima Village, Traditional Authority (TA) kuntanja in Blantyre city.

Lets be serious about planting trees. Lets invest as individuals, otherwise, the growing and increasingly poor population should be cause for concern. Inu mumapanga ma motivation talks, don’t just talk about money and sell your books and dvds that depict utopia. Be real about Malawi’s problems and take physical action.
that’s what happens to guys that works forest dept, they only face a mysterious death… wake Up guys, stop provoking hustling people
Anthu aku blantyre ndi madera ozungulira nafe tikumane pa upper stadium tipangane zopha a city olanda malonda aja

My question always is, why do we have very old people as forestry officers?
People don’t want to retire !!
Only if he beat him up i could say congrats, but killing him well justice should take it’s cause.
