The Malawi police have landed the blame on parents of kids with albinism for the abductions and killings which are making news on a daily basis in the country.
Malawi’s Commissioner of Police for the Southern Region, Dempster Chigwenembe, ordered all his officers in the region to arrest parents and guardians of albinos whenever their children goes missing.
Addressing officers during a familiarisation tour of Mulanje Police Station over the weekend, Chigwenembe said parents and guardians are responsible in ensuring the safety and security of their children and wards.
The commissioner’s order comes when abductions and killings of people with albinism are on increase to an extent that two days cannot pass without hearing on the local media cases of people with albinism being killed.
However, some days ago, the state president of the republic of Malawi, Peter Mutharika, advised the Malawi Police Service (MPS) to jack up and end the malpractice immediately.
