Man sentenced to 5 years for stealing soya pieces

CourtThe Ntchisi First Grade Magistrate Court has sentenced a 21 year-old man to   five years imprisonment with hard labour for breaking into a shop and stealing items.    

According to police prosecutor for Ntchisi Fred Luhanga, the convict, Joseph James, stole 24 tablets of Azam soap and 5 packets of Soya pieces all valued at K2, 600 from a shop belonging to Maliseni Simoni.

The convict pleaded guilty to the charge of breaking into a building and committing a felony therein which is contrary to section 311 of the penal code.

Passing her judgement, First Grade Magistrate Dorothy Kalua said the offence is serious, hence the offender deserve a stiff sentence to     send a warning to who would be offenders.

James hails from Mguza village in the area of Traditional Authority Nthondo in Ntchisi District.

In a similar case, the court in Ntchisi has sentenced Thomas Banda, 23, to four years imprisonment with hard labour for stealing a bicycle.
