Joyce Banda’s retirement package thrown to the grave

The Malawi against Physical Disabilities body has expressed dismay over demands by former President Joyce Banda that she is not coming home unless government prepares her retirement package.

In the package, Banda demanded a house and security detail arguing that the country has experienced insecurity that has seen top government officials being attacked by robbers. Reacting to the news, the disability body has described the claims as useless.

“What is baffling is that Joyce Banda is said to be looking for retirement benefits. Did she retire? “What kind of organization or company can you be paid retirement benefits after working for ninety days in the case of Zambia or two years in the case of Malawi?” queried the organization in a statement.

The body further said JB, as the ex Malawi leader is fondly known was fired from the position of the President through the last general elections in 2014 and there is no need to give her a retirement package as if she has worked for a long period.

“When someone has been employed, he or she comes from a home and while working he /she is supposed to prepare a home and not leave that responsibility to other people”

“These people therefore have homes, so why should taxpayers suffer the cost of housing them, feeding them, providing security for them and why security when they have wronged no one?” reads part of the statement.

Meanwhile Peoples Party (PP) has sided with Banda on the delay of her coming to Malawi after her self-imposed exile following a defeat during the 2014 elections.
