Azam Tigers produced another stunning performance on Saturday when they hit five goals past the Premier Bet Wizard goalkeeper at Kamuzu stadium.
The match started on an impressive note as both Azam and Wizard were looking for goals in the opening minutes of the match but it was Tigers who scored first through Luke Chima in the 10th minute after the Wizards defence was caught napping in the line of duty.
After that goal, the Kau Kau boys kept on pressurising the Wizards defence and 28 minutes into the game referee Ishmael Chizinga awarded a penalty to Azam Tigers after Blessings Joseph fouled Dan Kumwenda in the box.
Willy Saenda stepped up for the challenge and made no mistake when he scored Wizard’s second goal of the match and it was 2 nil in favour of the Kau Kau boys.
Ten minutes later Azam Tigers scored their third goal of the afternoon when Brighton Munthali jumped beyond everyone inside the Wizard penalty area to head in Yamikani Chester’s cross.
After that goal, Wizards started settling into the game as they were in search for a consolation goal but Azam Tigers defence led by Peter Cholopi defended jealously as they did not allow Peter Mponda’s side to reduce the deficit.
The first half ended 3 nil in favour of Robin Alufandika’s boys. After recess, Premier Bet Wizard came in with fresh ideas as they were dominating possession.
But Tigers still found an opportunity to increase their lead. Chikumbutso Henderson scored Azam Tigers’ fourth goal of the afternoon when he headed in Dan Kumwenda’s cross to put the game beyond Wizard’s reach. Three minutes later Azam Tigers were awarded a second spot kick of the match when Wizards captain Trevor Kalema handled the ball in the penalty area and Munthali stepped up for the challenge to make it 5 nil.
As the game was going towards the end, Peter Mponda’s side could have banged in their consolation goal through Blessing Phiri but he missed the target and the match ended 5 nil in favour of the Kau Kau boys.
Speaking to the media, Azam Tigers Technical director Alufandika said he was very happy with the win and added that his boys played according to instructions whereas Wizard Technical director Peter Mponda conceded defeat.
