Malawians arrested in SA over stolen shoes

Four Malawians were arrested after being found in possession of stolen shoes and mag wheels in Johannesburg, South Africa.

According to Ekurhuleni Metro police, a truck was reported hijacked in Alberton area carrying mag wheels and shoes.

South Africa PoliceLieutenant Colonel Wilfred Kgasago said the following day Ekurhuleni Metro Police received a tip about another truck parked on the side of the road in another area.

The police found that the parked truck had been reported stolen at Brighton Beach in KwaZulu-Natal.

When officers raided the yard of nearby premises, they found 816 pairs of shoes worth R170,000 and 20 mag wheels worth R40,000 which had been stolen from the truck that was hijacked in Alberton.

This led to the arrest of four Malawians, three men and a woman, who were found at the premises.

Police also confiscated R14,000 cash from the group.

The four suspects will appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of possession of stolen goods.
