The Dalton Road Magistrate Court in Blantyre has jailed three people for breaking into a shop and stealing items valued at K500, 000
The court has sentenced the three, William Philip, 24, Apatsa Philip, 29 and Isaac Petulo to three years and 6 months imprisonment with hard labour each.
According to Limbe Police assistant public relations officer Widson Nhlane, on March 18 the three convicts broke into a shop in Chigumula and stole several items including cooking oil, squash, airtime and bags of rice.
Police launched investigations into the robbery and they arrested the three. The law enforcers also recovered the stolen items which were identified by the shop owner.
In court, the convicts asked for leniency claiming that they were first offenders.
But the state prosecutor said the three committed a serious offence hence deserved a stiffer punishment to deter would-be offenders.
William and Apatsa hails from Changata village in the area of Traditional Authority (T/A) Khwetemula while Isaac Petulo comes from Chintepo village T/A Thomas, both traditional authorities are in Thyolo district
