PAC maintains stand against gays

Malawi’s religious grouping, the Public Affairs Committee (PAC) says the church is clear when it comes to gay issues and it will not tolerate anything that is against the word of God.

This comes after government’s move to drop charges against two gays who were arrested when they were found engaging in homosexual acts.

Through a statement released last week government said it is committed to review the law on homosexuality under the penal code and everything will be done in consultation with Malawians.

Previously, the minister of Justice Samuel Tembenu said no arrests or prosecutions must occur while the country is reviewing the laws.

However, PAC publicity secretary, Father Peter Mulomole, said they will regard the matter in accordance with the bible and the church is aware that marriage is between man and woman.

“The church is clear on issues concerning gays and we will not tolerate anything that is against what the bible says that marriage is between a man and a woman,” said Mulomole.

He added that they are watching closely the relationship between the country and donors and said government is under pressure.

  48. I am absolutely against this issue of gay marriage or whatsoever. My beliefs both as a christian and as Malawian does not allow me to associate myself with this. This has to be condemned in our society. But my problem is that as Malawians we are being bias and hypocrite as regards to gay rights and other human rights. It is against our cultural beliefs and the word of God for a woman to dress clothes that were meant to be dressed by men. And the bible in the book of Ephasians Strongly forbid this. But we have deliberately turned a blind eye to this in the name of human rights. Some churches have gone too far by letting women preach the word of God in the church, in the name of Human rights, Shame!! We have to keep in mind that our society is already wicked more than sodom and Gomora. If we are to argue the gay rights issue, basing on the facts that we are a God fearing nation and we would be in conflict with our cultural beliefs then we are being hypocrite and we don’t serve God with all our hearts coz we have chosen to let other sins to prevail amongst us in the name of human rights. Our religious leaders like PAC have to be objective and scrap out what God does not want His people to be doing. Let them preach the whole word of God so that many can be enlightened as what really God wants His people to behave.
