Lester Maganga who is accused of killing Allan Wittika has applied for bail at the High Court in Lilongwe.
Yesterday, Maganga appeared before a magistrate’s court where he was formally charged and his case was committed to the High Court.
His lawyer Innocent Kubwalo has told the local media today that the defence has submitted the application today considering that Maganga has a right to bail.
Yesterday, the state said it wants Maganga to remain in police custody for 90 days to allow police to conduct investigations into the allegations against him.
Lester Maganga was arrested last week in the murder case of Coca-Cola Beverages Company employee Allan Wittika whose body was found in his car in Lilongwe last month.
Maganga is personal assistant to Minister Moses Kunkuyu and his arrest has led to claims implicating the minister in the murder of Wittika.
However, MPS through the national public relations officer Senior Superintendent Peter Kalaya said currently police don’t have any information that implicates the minister of information.
Meanwhile, Police have arrested a police officer and two other women over an audio clip which contains claims linking Kunkuyu to the murder of Wittika.
