Njuyu Ward Councillor Yolanda Ngwira has announced her resignation from the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), citing dissatisfaction with the party’s leadership under President Lazarus Chakwera.
Ngwira, who represents Mzimba, has officially joined the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), expressing her belief that the opposition party offers solutions to the nation’s challenges.
Explaining her decision, Ngwira criticized the MCP for what she described as a betrayal of Malawians’ trust.
“The MCP has crucified Malawians on the cross. People have lost faith in Chakwera’s leadership, and I refuse to be part of this failure,” she said.
Ngwira also expressed confidence in DPP leader Peter Mutharika, stating, “I believe Mutharika and the DPP have the answers to the pressing issues our country is facing today.”
Her defection, along with that of other new members, was warmly welcomed by Christopher Mzomera Ngwira, the DPP’s Regional Governor for the Northern Region.
This move is seen as a significant development in the political landscape, particularly in the Northern Region, where both parties are competing for influence.
