A Malawian delegation is set to travel to Zambia before the end of this week to probe an alleged attempt to externalize 42 million Malawi Kwacha.

The funds were reportedly being moved by two foreign nationals who were recently detained by the Drug Enforcement Commission of Zambia.

Mark Lungu, spokesperson for the Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM), confirmed the mission to Zodiak Online. Dr. Lungu stated that the delegation aims to uncover the details behind the attempted transaction involving the US and a Russian national.

The RBM is collaborating closely with officials from the Zambian central bank to facilitate this investigation.

In response to the unfolding situation, Willy Kambwandira, Executive Director of the Centre for Social Accountability and Transparency (CSAT), has criticized the development as a stark indication of weaknesses in the country’s security systems.

Kambwandira’s comments highlight concerns over the effectiveness of current measures in preventing such incidents.

The investigation is expected to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the case and enhance efforts to strengthen Malawi’s financial and security protocols.
