Mkumbira Phiri who described Thawe as a young child full of ambition, and very friendly, said they thought raising funds so that he should be accorded a proper sendoff.

“The family is in total disbelief and shock over the tragic death of the young George and imagining how helpless he was at the time of his horrific departure.

“Following this sudden departure of George, we have resorted as family that we repatriate his body to Malawi, in order to be accorded a proper send off by his family and loved ones,” said Phiri.

Phiri has then appealed to well wishers to help them with funds for George’s repatriation to Malawi.

According to information posted on an online fundraising platform ‘gofundme’, the group has reaching this far managed to raise €2,140 which is approximately 2.6 Malawi Kwacha.
