Former cabinet minister and United Democratic Front (UDF) patron Patrick Mbewe has died.
According to a statement by UDF Secretary General Kandi Padambo, Mbewe passed on at Seventh Day Adventist Hospital in Blantyre this morning.
“With deep and heartfelt sorrow, I regret to announce the death of Hon. Patrick Mbewe who was one of the founders of the United Democratic Front and until his demise, the party’s Patron.
“Hon. Patrick Mbewe passed on in the morning of today, 16th February 2019 at Seventh Day Adventist Hospital in Blantyre. The funeral programme will be announced later,” says the statement.
UDF spokesperson Ken Ndanga told the local media that Mbewe deserves a befitting tribute.
“He served Malawi diligently and has been a fine gentleman through and through,” he said.
Mbewe served as Parliamentarian in Chiradzuru Central constituency as well in different ministerial positions during the Bakili Muluzi administration.
