Malawi will host Top African Chief Justices meeting from 28th to 30th October, 2018 at Bingu International Conventional Centre (BICC) in Malawi’s capital, Lilongwe.
According to a press statement issued by Southern African Chief Justices Forum (SACJF), Top Chief Justices from southern and eastern African countries will meet for the Southern African Chief Justices Forum Annual Conference and Annual General Meeting.
The meeting will be officially opened by Malawi Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs samuel Tembenu under the theme “Strengthening judicial independence: Towards a shared vision of judicial selection and appointment.”
Key speakers among others include Justice Jose Igleja Matos who is the president of European Association of Judges and the Advisory Board Member of the Global Judicial Integrity Network and renowned Faith Dikeledi Pansy Tlakula of South Africa.
The Chief Justices’ meeting is being hosted by Malawi Judiciary for being one of the member countries of SACF in collaboration with Democratic Governance and Rights Units (DGRU), International Commission of Jurists -Africa (ICJ-Africa) and other partners.
The Forum was established in 2003 to among other things, uphold the rule of law, democracy and independence of courts and to promote contact as well as cooperation among the courts in the regions if its operations.
