Inspector General (IG) of Malawi Police Lexten Kachama has showered words of praise on Central Region Police for a good performance in 2017.
Speaking when he visited Central Region Police headquarters yesterday, the police chief expressed satisfaction with the way police officers in the region discharged their duties in the just ended year saying the same has largely contributed to the reduction of criminal cases in 2017.
“Let me express my sincere gratitude and congratulations to all officers on the excellent work done,” said the police chief.
He further applauded the Commissioner of Police for the Central Region John Nyondo for his leadership and excellent job in spearheading operations in the region.
The police chief was however quick to point out that although there are many sections in the service which have performed outstandingly, there are others which are not performing not as expected.
He therefore appealed to all officers to address the shortfalls and get back to the ground to ensure maximum protection of people’s lives and property.
In the same vein, the IG urged police officers to discharge their normal duties with the expected professionalism, following all established procedures and regulations.
The police chief thereafter took the opportunity to extend to the officers the warm remarks from President Peter Mutharika who is also the Commander in-chief of the Malawi Police Service saying the president is happy with the police.
“The Head of State is happy with you for your great work. He talks highly of you and he is proud of you,” he said.
Kachama then reminded officers that they are servants of the people and not masters hence they should close the gap between the police and the general public.
