APM slams Bingu
…claims he has a more outstanding vision for Malawi

Even in death they are brothers but Malawi’s current leader has taken a swipe against his elder brother who paved the way for him.

President Peter Mutharika has landed fresh blame on former Presidents of Malawi including his brother for what he dubs as ‘worrisome negligence’.

Mutharika: Previous govt’s did not have clear plans.

Mutharika says the previous leaderships failed to consider investing in availability and accessibility of safe and portable water as well as power generation and distribution in the country.

He was speaking in Area 23 in Lilongwe today.

His remarks came in the wake of continued water and electricity woes- problems that have recently become a major topic of discussion in the public domain.

According to Mutharika his predecessors (which include Joyce Banda, his brother the late Bingu wa Mutharika , Bakili Muluzi and the late Hastings Kamuzu Banda – in the order) did not have clear plans in their leadership meant at having the sufficient and electricity supply.

‘’The previous governments did not have proper plans for this nation. You may therefore wish to note that my government has set up strong and sound plans to have problems in these sectors electrified’’ he said.

As Malawi24 reported weeks ago, electricity blackouts are taking up to 8 hours across all location in Malawi.

Electricty Supply Corporatin of Malawi (ESCOM) has cited the decreasing water levels as the major reason that has affected power generation in its hydro power stations.

Meanwhile, demonstrations against the situation are slated for the 19th of this month.

ESCOM has been accused of incompetent by Malawians.
