Recent political mudslinging among opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) members worried experts who argued the wrangles were likely to weaken the oldest party, sentiments that have been shared by Salima North East lawmaker Jessie Kabwila.

Kabwila disclosed that the party needs to iron out the differences that have been making headlines in the local press in readiness for 2019 general elections.

“These internal squabbles are to take us nowhere, it’s like we are pulling back each other as we target to score, MCP is the party that is to give hope to Malawians, it has members who stand with each other through thick and thin,” said Kabwila in an interview with Malawi24.

She added by applauding the National Executive Committee (NEC) for the resolutions that are likely to resolve the differences.

“Unlike in the past when our President was standing and firing any member giving contrary views, NEC has disclosed that we should come together as children from the same family,” added Kabwila.

MCP’s national committee had an emergency meeting to solve the political infighting in the party.

Among others, NEC disclosed that the party is to hold a convention at a later date and not on July 7 as announced by secretary general Gustav Kaliwo.

NEC has also opened doors for dialogue for members who were reported to be opposing the leadership style of party president Lazarus Chakwera.
