Police in Nkhatabay are keeping in custody a 34 year-old woman for being found with Indian hemp.
The woman, Angella Banda, was arrested on December 2 after police officers who were manning Mukwiya roadblock in the district came across two expand bags loaded with loose cannabis sativa following a search on a Marcopolo bus.
After interviewing the bus conductor, he revealed to the officers that the two bags belonged to Banda and that she boarded the bus at Dwangwa en route to Mzuzu.
The suspect was arrested and the two expand bags were also seized. She is expected to appear in court soon where she is to answer charges of being found in possession of cannabis sativa which infringes section 4a as read with regulation 19 (1and 2) of Dangerous Drugs Act.
Banda comes from Nsomba village in the area of Traditional Authority (TA) Mabuka in Mulanje district.
