Police in Kasungu district have arrested a 29 year-old man for raping his two daughters, who are aged eight and seven, over a period of two years.
Deputy Public Relations Officer for Mwanza police station Harry Namwaza said the rapist, whom we cannot identify, has been sexually abusing his two daughters since 2014 and he used to threaten them not to reveal the ordeal to anyone.
“According to the mother of the girls, she first learnt of her husband’s heinous behavior in October, 2016 after she caught him raping the seven year-old daughter,” he explained.
After the woman confronted him, the suspect apologised and promised not to do it again.
But even though he apologised, the rapist warned his wife that if she tells other people about the sexual abuse he would deal with her.
The woman complied but on 22 November the matter was revealed when the little girls approached their neighbours claiming that they were tired of their father’s behaviour.
The issue was reported to police and the victims were told to go to Kasungu District Hospital for medical examination.
The suspect was arrested on 23 November 2016 and has only been charged with incest which is contrary to section 157 of the penal code.
