Mentally challenged man hangs himself to death
A mentally challenged man in his 20s has hanged himself to death in Chilimani village, in the area of Traditional Authority Kachenga in Balaka district.
According to the Malawi police, the deceased has been identified as Reuben Akim who killed himself for undisclosed reason.
The police says the incident happened on Saturday, October 8 at around 2PM.
Father to the deceased Joseph Akim told police that one of his grandsons informed him about the issue.
It is reported that the father was sleeping at this time but he got awakened by the grandson who had found the deceased’s body hanging from the roof of a boys’ quarter just behind the father’s house.
Police report shows that the deceased used a piece of mosquito net to successfully kill himself.
The matter was reported to some elderly people in the area who later reported it to the police.
The body was then taken to Balaka hospital where postmortem results showed that Reuben died due to suffocation.
Last week, a 22 year-old Malawian woman also hanged herself to death in Mangochi district after her husband accused her of cheating on him.
