Govt rubbishes reports of Mutharika’s ill health
Malawi government on Tuesday dismissed social media reports claiming that President Peter Mutharika had suffered a cardiac arrest.
Mutharika has been reported as having “good health” as he is currently in New York attending the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Francis Kasaila told the press that Malawians should not panic with reports about the president’s health on social media, labelling the reports as mere gossip.
The minister assured Malawians that Mutharika was enjoying his stay in the United States. He also described the Malawian leader as “very strong and healthy”
Kasaila however expressed suspicions that the reports were spread by members of the opposition who have malicious intent.
The reports broke shortly after social media posts surfaced saying that the Southern African country’s leader had suffered a cardiac arrest.
Mutharika has since been captured looking fit and vibrant while mingling with dignitaries in New York.
