Preview: Wanderers vs Mangochi Police: Will the law enforcers create another upset?

Be Forward Wanderers and Mangochi Police will battle in the semi-finals of the 2016 Carlsberg Cup this afternoon as coach Eliya Kananji targets his second silverware and probably defend the cup in his second season with the Blantyre based giants.

Wanderers are on the back of a heavy 4-2 defeat to Mzuni FC in the Super League but have had a smooth run in the cup.

While Kananji tried to find his feet at the club, Wanderers managed to overcome a spirited Kamuzu Barracks side in the quarter-finals by claiming a 2-nil victory over the Soldiers.

Now, if the Nomads are to defend the title, they must overcome a spirited Mangochi Police, a team in confidence.

The Master Security Premier Division side overpowered Wizards FC in the quarter-final to set up a David vs Goliath semi-final that will be played at Kamuzu Stadium.

As the surprise package on the Carlsberg Cup, Mangochi Police have promised to repeat what Zomba United did in 2014 when they reached the finals of the cup only to lose 2-nil to Big Bullets FC.

However, it will not be easy to advance to the cup final at the expense of the Nomads who have their very own sharpshooter Peter Wadabwa who is expected to score more goals in the tournament.

The rookies have no injury concerns ahead of the encounter but Wanderers have several players out of the game due to injuries. By the end of the day, one team will progress to the finals and will be waiting for the winner between Silver Strikers and Mafco FC.

The two teams will battle it out for a place in the final on Sunday afternoon at Civo Stadium.

This year’s final will be played on 10th September at Kamuzu Stadium, with the winner walking away with a trophy and cash amounting to K12 million.
