A 54 year-old man has died after the car he was driving collided head-on with another vehicle at Nkope area in Mangochi district.
According to Mangochi Police Deputy Public Relations Officer Amina Tepani Daudi, the deceased Steve Chenji was driving motor vehicle registration number BM 1590 Isuzu KB pick up which was carrying several passengers from the direction of Monkey Bay to Mangochi Township.
Upon arrival at Nkope, Chenji was blinded by the lights of another car and as a result he went to the other side of the road where the vehicle collided head on with a Toyota Hiace registration number BU 7075 that was being driven by Kapito Mikacho, 32.
Following the impact, Chenji sustained internal injuries and died on the spot. The driver of the Hiace sustained fractures of right leg and together with several passengers from both vehicles was rushed to Mangochi District Hospital.
Both vehicles had their front parts extensively damaged.
The deceased hailed from Makokola Village, Traditional Authority Mponda in Mangochi.
