Police in Blantyre have arrested a 19 year-old man for breaking into houses and stealing items in areas within the commercial city.
The suspect, Kelvin Thomas was arrested after people in the city reported several cases of theft.
Confirming to Malawi24, Blantyre Police assistant spokesperson Andrew Mayawo said the suspect was on the list of the most wanted criminals in the city and investigations led to his arrest.
Thomas is yet to appear in court to answer charges of burglary and theft contrary to section 309 and 278 of Malawi’s penal code respectively.
He comes from Makata village, Traditional Authority (TA) Machinjiri in Blantyre.
In a related development, Police in the city have also arrested Daniel Mwale aged 24 from Ndirande Township, for keeping and selling stolen property.
Confirming to Malawi24, Mayawo said well-wishers reported the suspect to police.
Mayawo added that Police have since found Phillips TV screen, two subwoofers, Ecco DVD player, TFT LCD monitor, Samsung Plasma TV, Blankets in Mwale’s house.
The suspect will soon appear before Blantyre Magistrate court. He hails from William village, T.A Kunthembwe in Blantyre.
