A mob in Mangochi has murdered a 24 year-old mentally disturbed man after he was found stealing in the district.
According to Eastern Region Police spokesperson Autilia Kumanga, during the night of 19th July, the deceased, Saidi Bulla was assaulted to death and dumped along an earth road.
“Post-mortem conducted at Lungwena Health Centre revealed that death was due to severe head injuries and loss of blood,” Kumanga said.
Police have since launched investigations to trace the culprits. The deceased hailed from Makumba village, Traditional Authority Chowe in Mangochi.
In a related incident, a 50 year-old man known as Abasi has been killed by an elephant.
The incident happened during the night of 19th July, 2016 when the deceased and his friend went to Liwonde National Park for hunting and whilst there they met an elephant that started chasing them.
“One of them managed to escape but the Abasi was attacked and killed,” Kumanga said.
Postmortem conducted at Malombe Health Centre revealed that death was due to severe loss of blood.
Abasi was from Ghikala village, Traditional Authority Chowe in Mangochi district.
