The department of Animal Health and Livestock Development in the ministry of agriculture, irrigation, and water development has advised dog owners to ensure that they receive certificates once their dogs are vaccinated.
The department made the statement as it continues administering rabies vaccine in the country.
In his remarks, director for Animal Health and Livestock Development Ben Chimera said failure to obtain the certificates for the vaccinated animals affects duties of health personnel.
Chimera said the vaccination is very important since it prevents the animals from being attacked by the rabies.
He added that the animals are supposed to be vaccinated so that they should not bite people and infect them with the disease.
Chimera however urged people in the country to use the opportunity to vaccinate their animals saying the vaccine is very expensive.
“We are encouraging people in the country to take their dogs for rabies vaccination to prevent the animals from the disease,” he explained
According to statistics, over 60,000 people across the world die from rabies every year.
