The battle between two Malawi Defence Force teams ended in a draw at Zomba Community Centre Ground on Sunday.
In their first match at the Zomba Community Ground this season, Red Lions failed to beat Kamuzu Barracks as the TNM Super League encounter ended 1-1.
Kamuzu Barracks were the first to score in the 24th minute through Manase Chiyesa but the soldiers of Zomba equalised through Moses Nankumba.
Red Lions failed to find another goal despite Kamuzu Barracks’ Vincent Mphepo being sent off later in the match after a tackle on Innocent Bokosi.
In his words after the game, assistant coach for Red Lions Pritchard Mwansa hailed his boys for their hardworking spirit throughout the match.
“This is not a match we expected today, but all in all half bread is better than none, collecting a point is better, and I thank the boys for showing passion to win,” Mwansa said.
On the part of Kamuzu Barracks, Billy Phambala said they outplayed the Reds in the first half but his boys lacked momentum in the second half. Nonetheless, he expressed satisfaction with the point.
“We are ok to go with appoint to the capital, it’s not bad,” he expressed.
The result means Kamuzu Barracks have collected a single point from their trip to the southern region following their 1-0 loss to Azam Tigers at Kamuzu stadium on Saturday.
