Cholera continues to wreak havoc in the northern region with Rumphi and Karonga reportedly the worst hit.
The cholera outbreak is severe at Ngara and Chilumba in Karonga lakeshore areas as well as at Chitimba in Rumphi where cholera patients are receiving treatment in complete isolation from other patients.
The quarantine measures have been applied in all the health centres where cases have been reported.
In Rumphi, other Cholera outbreak cases were reported at Luwuchi a week ago while Mlowe Health Centre registered its first case on Monday this week and the situation is gradually getting serious each day despite the quarantine measures currently in place when treating cholera patients.
Residents around Mlowe Health Centre yesterday expressed satisfaction with the way Mlowe Health Centre is handling the outbreak but also expressed fears that the situation could worsen owing to inadequate supply of medical drugs in view of the outbreak.
This is the first cholera outbreak in Mlowe adjacent areas of Zowo and Luwuchi in the past 45 years.
