In a bid to ensure security in Limbe, Blantyre police in the town have arrested 42 people in a sweeping exercise.
According to Assistant Public Relations Officer for Limbe Police Widson Nhlane, officers at Limbe Police station had been receiving reports that people were being attacked when knocking off from their various offices and places of business.
In order to reduce such incidences, the law enforcers conducted a sweeping exercise on the night of April 23.
“A sweeping exercise was conducted on 23-24 April and our officers managed to arrest 42 suspects around Limbe policing areas,” said Nhlane.
He added that the suspects have been arrested on various charges including theft, robbery with violence, and being found in possession of property suspected to have been stolen.
According to Nhlane, the suspects will appear before court on 25 April 2016 to answer charges levelled against them.
Areas under Limbe Police Station include Mpigwe, Manje, Maselema, Makhetha.
Meanwhile, the law enforcers have thanked members of the communities for working hand in hand with them by tipping them about people suspected to be criminals.
