This day in history: President Mutharika dies for the first time

In 2012 on 5 April, rumours started making rounds that the Malawi leader Dr. Bingu wa Mutharika had died.

People on Facebook started posting of strange events that were happening at the Kamuzu Central Hospital. Among other things, government officials and the first lady at that time Callista Mutharika were seen running up and down at KCH. Radio broadcasts were made but most were cautious.

Behind the scenes, current President Peter Mutharika was busy forcing doctors to resuscitate his brother although he had been told in no uncertain terms that his brother had passed on.

Mutharika’s death came days after Nigerian Prophet TB Joshua had said that a leader in Southern Africa would die. Joshua did not mention any name but he had indicated that the death would be sudden.

Mutharika’s death was indeed sudden. He died in a meeting with one of his female ministers. Other people close to him had later said that he was in good health when they had met him that morning. His death was later established to have been a cardiac arrest. It was said that his heart failed.

Despite that Mutharika was dead, the government officials including Malawi’s current President Peter Mutharika agreed that he had to be flown to South Africa for medical attention.

In the evening, MBC aired a statement that Mutharika was sick and had been flown to South Africa for specialty attention. In the next days however it would announce the death of Mutharika.

Strangely when the body of Mutharika was brought home, the dates of his death were unstable. It was once registered as 7, 6 and of course 5 April, meaning Mutharika had 3 days to die.

This day in history is not just the day when Bingu wa Mutharika died. It is the day when he died for the first time, he will die again in the coming two days.

Bingu was a visionary leader only 8 yrs in power he managed to put Malawi at at a high level interms of tight security, infrastructural developments, food security , stability of Kwacha, honouring father of the nation Dr H.K Banda ,food security the list is endless.
