The United Democratic Front (UDF) has said it is against calls for President Peter Mutharika to resign arguing that the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) administration can solve the country’s problems.

UDF spokesperson Ken Ndanga told the media that the party wants to help DPP in running the country hence it does not believe in giving government ultimatums.

The UDF spokesperson was reacting to calls by Malawi Congress Party, People’s Party, and AFORD for Mutharika to resign saying he has failed to solve the country’s economic challenges.

According to Ndanga, the DPP cannot run the government alone since it tackles a lot of things which are of public interest.

He added that calling for Mutharika’s resignation is not a good idea since government needs the support of other political parties in order to deal with the economic problems the country is grappling with.

On why his party was not represented at the rally which the other opposition parties organised on Sunday, the UDF spokesperson said the party was not invited hence had no way of knowing the aim of the political rally.
