Boy attempts suicide after being dumped by a girl in Nkhatabay

19 year-old Blessings Banda has attempted suicide by throwing himself in a river near Kande Bridge in Nkhatabay district after his lover dumped him for unspecified reasons, Malawian Police say.

Police publicist for the district sergeant Ignatius Esau said the two lovebirds are students at Vibitac private secondary school in the district where the boy was in form four while his soul mate is in form two.

Information the police gathered shows that the two had been in love for close to a year until recently when the girl told the boy that she was breaking up with him.

“The news irked the boy to the extent that he decided to commit suicide. He went and threw himself in a river near Kande Bridge,” said Esau.

Fortunately, he did not die but only sustained serious vertebral fracture and he has since been referred to Matiki Health Centre for an X-Ray.

The news is believed to have stormed the whole school where some students are accusing the girl of causing such pain to the boy. The boy hails from Chimugonda village traditional authority Kafuzira in Nkhotakota.
