Stranded.

25 students from the Malawi Institute of Journalism (MIJ) Mzuzu campus were forced to sleep at a police station in Karonga on Sunday as a bus they hired left them after they refused to return to Mzuzu.

The boys and girls from Mzuzu MIJ campus were in Karonga for a three day education trip.

Speaking to Malawi24, one of the students who did not want to be named said the students refused to board the bus back to Mzuzu because they wanted to leave Karonga in the afternoon as arranged by the institution’s students union.

The student further said that the student union failed them as it did not fulfill what it promised before going to Karonga.

Where should we go?

He added that the union doesn’t care about the safety of the students that’s why the bus left them in Karonga.

Our efforts to speak with the publicity director of the Institution’s students union proved to be very difficult as he left his phone unanswered on several attempts.

Unconfirmed reports indicate that some of the students who did not board the bus home were in drinking joints taking liquor.

Of the 25 students that were left in Karonga, 8 were girls whereas 17 were boys.
