The Bingu National Stadium construction in Malawi capital Lilongwe continues to be a target for thieves due to lack of security around the project’s parameters.

The Chinese funded stadium was due to be opened last August but theft of some relevant materials has delayed its completion.

Reports indicate that pipes which were supplying water to the pitch have been stolen, leaving the pitch dry.

In an interview with Zodiak Broadcasting Station, government architect McNight Munthali urged government to construct a police station at the stadium in order to tighten security.

Munthali said that security which is available is not enough hence the non-stop devilish acts.

According to Munthali provision of a police station around the stadium premises is the only sound solution that may ensure quick conclusion of the project.

As it stands, Malawians will have to wait longer than expected before the Flames kick a ball at the state of the art structure.
