Hundreds of Malawians yesterday gathered at Ntonda, Khumbo Farm, in Blantyre to finally part ways with former Minister in the reign of United Democratic Front (UDF) Dr. George Nga Mtafu.
Mtafu who was the first Neurosurgeon in Malawi died on Tuesday at Mwaiwathu Private Hospital where he was rushed after being involved in a car accident along Chileka road.
The burial ceremony was attended by former President Dr. Bakili Muluzi, Health Minister Dr. Peter Kumpalume, renowned politicians and thousands of people who came to witness the burial of one of the finest politicians in Malawi.
Mtafu was born in Likoma Island and studied Neurosurgery in Germany. He joined frontline politics in 1994 when he was elected Member of Parliament for Likoma but he eventually lost his seat in the 2009 general elections.
He is survived by a wife and two children.
