Member of Parliament for Lilongwe City Centre David Bisnowaty on Thursday made a surprise visit not only to cheer and sympathize with Malawians who trade in Area 18 market and whose goods were burnt by the fire early this month.
On 12 September, Fire razed down different types of merchandise ranging from vegetables, hardware, groceries, and many more amounting to K100Million.
Soon after the inferno, politicians trekked to the area for just a road show because they had nothing to show in their hands.
First was Malawi Congress Party (MCP) President Dr Lazarus Chakwera who together with his party chariots toured the market. He went there just to chat with the victims.
Chakwera was followed later by Minister of Local Government Kondwani Nankhumwa who again just went to sing some songs of sorrow with the victims.
As usual Nankhumwa promised vendors that Government “will not leave you alone”
Two weeks down the lane here comes the dreamer, and hope for area 18 and a real friend since a friend in need is a friend indeed.
He brought with him trucks of special made vehicles from Lilongwe City Council (LCC).
Bisnowaty also brought workers to clear the all ashes left by the fire.
Speaking to a contingent of reporters who accompanied him to witness the exercise, Bisnowaty said he has come to work not to sympathise with the vendors.
Unlike other politicians who just come to sing for his leader here the situation was total different as the all his supporters were busy working clearing the debris.
“These vendors don’t needs our promises, their they need action,” said Bisnowaty.
“That is why I have come to take action”
Bisnowaty was also seen with undisclosed amount of cash which he passed on to the vendors. Others were just saying its a million others were saying its over than that.
Area 18 Vendors have since lauded Bisnowaty for the action taken.
