A 24 year-old woman and her baby have died after drowning in Likhubula River at Chileka township in the commercial city of Blantyre.
The woman, Darani Ernest got drowned after she went to the river with her 7 months-old baby Yohane Simon.
Confirming to Malawi24, Chileka Police spokesperson Grace Mwale said the woman was suffering from epilepsy.
“The woman was with her baby at the river unfortunately she fell in the river with the baby and got drowned,” said Mwale.
Postmortem revealed that the two died after suffocation following the drowning. The woman hailed from Zakazaka village, Traditional Authority (TA) Kuntaja in Blantyre.
Meanwhile, the police have appealed to the public to take care of friends and relatives who suffer from epilepsy and who are mentally disturbed.
