A road accident involving a minibus has claimed the life of a cyclist at Chisaka village, in Nkhotakota district.
Nkhotakota Police Public Relations Officer Williams Kaponda identified the deceased as Mr Chikafa Bamusi who was hit when the minibus, a Nissan Caravan, was trying to overtake him.
“The minibus was being driven by Mr Luwa Zakaliya and was coming from the direction of Nkhotakota heading to Salima side with passengers on board,” said Kaponda.
When the minibus reached at Chisaka village the driver tried to overtake the cyclist and in the process of overtaking he hit him.
Following the impact the pedal cyclist sustained head injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at Alinafe Community Hospital.
The motor vehicle had its left view mirror broken and the bicycle has been extensively damaged.
The deceased hailed from Chisaka village, Traditional Authority Mwadzama in Nkhotakota district.
