Churches hold prayers for Malawi soldiers in DRC

As some Malawi Defence Force (MDF) soldiers are in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on peacekeeping mission, churches in the country prayed for them during prayers that were held at Kamuzu Barracks in Lilongwe.

The inter-religious prayers brought together Islam, Catholic Church, Anglican Church, Church of Central African Presbyterian Church (CCAP) and others under the theme “Signs of last days”.

MDF Deputy Commander responsible for Administration Lieutenant General Nundwe was the guest of honour.

Speaking to Malawi24 after the prayers, MDF Muslim chaplain Captain Saad Malovu commended the great work that the Malawi Soldiers are doing in DRC.

“These soldiers are performing a great job in DRC. They are worth to be prayed for; for their good health and that they must not face any external challenges in process of their operations,” said Malovu.

He further said that the Malawi Battalion which is currently in Democratic Republic of Congo should be prayed for to be performing their duties according to the wishes of God.

“In anything all human beings put God first, either civilians or soldiers. This is also a key thing in soldiers, we put God first in everything we do hence praying for the Malawian soldiers who are on peacekeeping mission in DRC to follow the suit,” said Malovu.

The recent Malawi Battalion left the country in May this year to help in keeping peace in DRC where there is conflict.

Some Malawian soldiers who were sent to DRC on peacekeeping missions in the past were commended by United Nations for their hard work, patriotism and determination.

But in Malawi i think because the country is so poor. UNHRC must look in the matters as well. As we speak 28 soldier 4rm Tanzania govt are being charged with rape and sexual abuse in refugee camps.
